Deadline for Right-to-Buy Discount Looms

Act now to benefit from the higher discounts.

Right-to-Buy allows most council tenants to buy their council home at a discount. If you've been thinking of buying your council property, act now!

On 21 November 2024, the discounts you get will be reduced.

With council houses, you get a 35% discount if you’ve been a public sector tenant for between three and five years. After five years, the discount increases by 1% for every additional year you’ve been a public sector tenant, up to the maximum discount amount.

However, there are limits:

If you apply today, the maximum discount you can get is:

  • £136,400 in London
  • £102,400 in the rest of England.

If you apply on or after 21 November, the maximum discount you can get is:

  • £22,000 in the North East
  • £26,000 in the North West
  • £24,000 in Yorkshire
  • £24,000 in the East Midlands
  • £26,000 in the West Midlands
  • £34,000 in the Eastern region
  • £38,000 in the South East
  • £30,000 in the South West
  • £16,000 in London

That's a big decrease! Act now to benefit from the higher discounts.

You need to submit your application before the 21st. Talk to your mortgage advisor or our team at Cyborg Finance on 0113 320 3240 or hello@cyborg.finance.

We can help you get your Right-to-Buy application in before 21 November and get started on your mortgage application.

You have 12 weeks after you receive your council landlord’s offer to confirm that you still want to buy. You do not need a deposit; the council discount can serve as the deposit.
